Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 8th October 1898 and under Bombay Public Trusts Act XXIX of 1950 on the 4th November 1952-No. F.51 Pune.
3. FCRA Registration No. / Date of Issue:
The Institution is registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976, vide letter No. II / 21022 / 68 / (594) / 85 FCRA.III dated 23 March 1985 with a Registration No. 083930104. Date of issue is 23 March 1985.
4. Organizational Structure:
a. Year of Establishment:
The Institution was established by Dr. D. K. Karve in the year 1896. The Institution is now 125 years old.
b. Nature of the Institution:
The Institution was established solely for the purpose of women’s education and their social upliftment. It is an Educational Institution for girls and women, running different educational and other units for them.
c. Constitution of Management Committee:
The General Body of Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha is constituted by members consisting of Patrons, Benefactors, Sympathizers, Ordinary members and Life Workers. The President of the Samstha is elected among Vice Presidents and Vice-Presidents are elected from among Patrons. The Managing Committee is formed by elected members, trustees and life workers and employees’ representatives. All the properties of the Samstha, movable and immovable, are deemed to vest jointly in the names of Trustees of MKSSS, who are appointed by the General Body on the recommendation of President and Vice Presidents of the MKSSS.
The administration of the Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha is handled by the Managing Committee. Hence the decision making system is very rugged. The Managing Committee is responsible for taking up new projects and implementation of the projects. Decentralized and democratic way of management is the strength of MKSSS and is the sole success mantra for its smooth and efficient operations for last 121 years.
In order to manage this huge set up, various Sub-committees are formed under Managing Committee namely:

3. Central Purchase Committee
4. Finance Committee
5. Building Committee
6. Repair & Maintenance Committee
7. Land Purchase and Acquisition Committee

d. Number of Units and Their Locations:
The Institution runs 62 units. These units are located in Pune, Satara, Wai, Ratnagiri, Kamshet and Nagpur.
5. Purpose of Establishment, Vision and Mission Statement:
a. Purpose of Establishment:
In the 18th century, social pattern in India was such that women were not allowed to go to schools for education. With the purpose of upliftment, emancipation and education of women, who formed a major section of the socially downtrodden, Maharshi D. K. Karve founded an Institution called “Hingne Stree Shikshan Samstha”, in the year 1896. Prof. Karve dedicated his whole life for this humanitarian cause with great determination and courage.
b. Vision of the Parent Organization:
Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve, a revered Visionary with extraordinary legacy of work in the field of women emancipation and education, is the inspiration and guiding soul behind the MKSSS’s vision of “Empowered Women playing equal role in Society and Nation building”. In keeping up with the vision, MKSSS strives to build a society of equal opportunities, social justice, a society where women will have their due importance, can live an enriched quality of life, a life of freedom and personal fulfillment. MKSSS works towards empowerment and enrichment of women through education, innovative training for life skills and job skills, pioneering the entry of women in new technology areas and new job domains. MKSSS’s vision also includes facilitating self employment, awareness and sensitivity to women issues in society.

Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, (MKSSS), Pune is committed to Quality, a defining element in education and governance, leading to an all-round sustainable progress of the Institution. The Quality Policy of MKSSS is controlled by transparency and accountability of our efforts and is monitored through suitable combination of self and external audits.
7. Meaning of the Institution:
Name of the Institution is in Marathi language. In this name, Karve is the name of the founder. He was called as Maharshi which means a great sage. Stree means woman, Shikshan means education and Samstha means Institution. This is an Institution dedicated for women’s education.
