Q.1 Why choose India as a place for higher education?

The Indian education system comprises of primary education, secondary & higher secondary education, and higher education. Higher education in India starts after passing the higher secondary education or the 12th standard. Postgraduate courses are generally two to three years long. After completing a postgraduate degree, there is the option of continuing on with doctoral studies and research at various educational institutes.

In India, there are more than 17,000 colleges, 20 central universities, 217 State universities, 106 Deemed Universities and 13 Institutes of National importance in the Indian higher education system. This number is consistently growing as a further 30 central universities, 8 new IITs, 7 IIMs and 5 new Indian Institutes of Science are proposed.

Q.2 Can you tell me more about why India is said to have the second largest higher education system in the world?

The Indian higher education system is comprised of over 400 Universities and 20,000 colleges offering a broad spectrum of programs. The programs offered are of Diploma, Undergraduate, Post graduate and Doctorate levels.

In Pune, there are more than 300 Colleges / Institutions giving undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate education in various fields. Also, Pune is a large industrial city. It is India’s one of the largest “Information Technology (IT)” center where there are around 1100 IT industries. Also, Pune is India’s largest industrial center for automobiles. A good number of Multi-national automobile industries have their plants in Pune. In addition to IT and automobile industries, a large number of manufacturing and service provider industries are placed in Pune. Due to this situation, students get a better exposure for the industrial world. They also get opportunities to work in these industries during vacations. Another important factor about Pune city is the climate. The climate is pleasant through the year. In winter, night temperature goes down to 7 to 8 Degrees Celsius. Q.7 Do I need health insurance while I am studying in India?

Our institution provides infirmary facilities for minor ailments, however for more serious medical problems; you would have to go to a health care facility that is off campus. Our Institution will provide necessary guidance to get yourself insured, if you desire to do so.

Q.8 Am I eligible for a scholarship or for a grant?

In general, Indian institutions do not provide grants for education; however some do offer a reduction in fees to students coming from SAARC countries. In addition, the Indian government does offer aid to students coming from some developing countries. For a list of those countries, please contact the nearby Indian consulate.

Q.9 What are the pre-requisites for studying in India?

Undergraduate programs require passing an examination that is equivalent to a standard 12 years of schooling, offered in India. However, for a Diploma program you must have completed 10 years of schooling. You must have adequate proficiency in English to comprehend and cope with the curriculum.

Q.10 Do I need to pass a GMATTM, GRETM, SATTM, TOEFLTM or any other standardized test?

Indian academic institutions do not insist on any of these examinations; however an adequate proficiency in English is necessary to fulfill the academic requirements.

Q.11 When is the academic year commenced at Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha (MKSSS), Pune?

In general, the academic year begins in July; however some institutions commence their academic year in August.

Q.12 What are the formalities to be completed before coming to India for education?

To study in India, you need to obtain a student visa for India. Once you receive a confirmed letter of admission from an Indian institution, you can easily obtain a student visa from the Indian consulate near you.

Variety of food is available in Pune. In most parts of the Pune city, a special Indian meal is offered. Cuisine without meat is particularly called “Vegetarian” or “Veg”. The food including meat is clearly specified as “Non-veg”. Both the “Veg” and “Non-veg” food is satisfactorily available.

Q.14 Give me information about restaurants in Pune.

In Pune there are many restaurants to suit each individual’s palate and budget. Most restaurants offer Indian food and there are certain exclusive restaurants that offer international cuisine, as well.
